Laboratory tests on an extract of pine trees has found it may have a use against digestive problems such as ulcers and heartburn.

The substance, called ecabet sodium, is derived from pine resin.

I wonder if this is chemically similar to mastic gum, which is also a resin, and seems to have a similar effect....

Mastic gum is exuded by the bark of the mastic tree, Pistacia lentiscus, which is an evergreen tree and so is pine.
