I have had stomach problems,, ulcers 4 years ago and heartburn off and on.
Ive been off and on pepcid and ppis all along, but i had a scope in January 2003 and now i have Barretss.
So I started taking PPIs off and on..
But one day 3 months ago I made a big mistake and went to physical therapy after eating and did some stomach crunches.
My stomach pain came that night.
If that wasnt bad enough, I went on a camping trip. Nothing to eat there but potatoe chips and a hamberger, so thats what I ate. I must have been insane.
I woke up the next day with horendus heartburn that has not left yet. ( I have gotten 2 days of relief twice now) , but I dont know what to attribute that to.
I go from Previcid to nexium to pepsid. ( after 2 -3 days on PPIs, I get bad stomach pains and bloating).
Now, Im on Nexium, and the stomach pain is better, but the throat burning is worse.
I dont know what else to do, but go and get scoped again.
All i eat is watermelon, cantelope, toast, chicken, baked potatoe, applesauce and cottage cheese.

Even swallowing maylox burns the throat.
Any ideas? What can I swallow to coat it?
I have some carafate, but it seemed to make it worse. Is this my emagination?
It is 24/7. A bit better in the morning but talking makes it much much worse. I can hardly work and I dread when the phone rings.
I went to the throat doctor , he looked at my larnix and said it is normal, so the burning is probably lower.
Any ideas?

Thanks ellie

Ellie, Some people have had good results drinking Aloe. I've seen it for sale in health food stores and some supermarkets. Also there is a product called Slippery Elm throat lozenges that help some. I think Slippery Elm also can be made into a tea.

My ENT doctor never saw any problems either except for weakened vocal cords. I was taking Pepcid twice a day at that time and my GI doctor added Nexium and the throat burn, sore neck and hoarseness went away.

It's not uncommon for a doctor to prescibe a PPI twice a day for stubborn GERD and/or LPR.
