I have been wondering just what the effects that Prevacid can have over long term use. And what length of time is considered long term use? I take 30mg twice a day. I am waiting for appointment with gastroenterologist. My regular M.D. has suggested that I will need to take these indefinitely. I have my reserves about this. I really don't want to continue taking them. I have been on this dose for 9 months. Also, what is the scoop on antacids? I take these daily. I just wonder if these can keep my body from doing the job on it's own. My hope is to teach my body not to produce so much acid, not rely on medication. I am a candidate for the Nissen fundiplication, and not sure this is the route I want to go as I have a large hiatal hernia. Any thoughts?
