Hi GW,

I just read that you are an "ex gerd" sufferer. How did you get better, and how long did you suffer?

I'm reaching out for hope.

Hey there Katie,

Just got a chance to get online tonight. Sorry to be a bit tardy......lot's of work lately

Anywho.....basically I found that the root of my particular problem was anxiety. Anxiety can produce too much bile in the lower extremities causing excess stomach "gastric soup" to churn and force it's way up to regions it's not suppose to be.....like the esophagus. I had horrible GERD problems for five years just after experiencing three very tragic events within an 18 month period. I just had my 45th B-day.

A year or so ago, while taking Prilosec...which was controlling the acid pretty much, I was diagnosed with anxiety. After much consideration and a tip from a friend here on this forum I campaigned for Xanax. My symptoms stopped immediately and continued to do arrest not only my panic attacks, but the excess Bile Factory and thus allowing my esophagus to heal. I took a close look at my lifestyle as well and planned workouts regimens and a much healthier diet.

I lost weight and after 100 days stopped taking all medication. I've only had to take the Xanax twice in the last year for about 2 weeks to halt some minor panic attacks I experienced due to stress and slipping a little with my healthy program of exercise.

It's been over a year since I've had any GERD symptoms and the last scope showed no more inflammation. Doc called it...."healed".

Thanks for asking!

GW

GW,

How nice of you to still come to the boards here to help people out. You are better, and yet you are still helpful [and witty, too].

I "wish" I had a diagnosis of anxiety, too, but other than feeling totally wrecked emotionally these past couple of weeks [due to the pain in my esophagus and throat], I have not felt anxious at all. However, I used to have an anxiety problem, but that was years and years ago. I was actually treated with Xanax for it.

Well, I am glad you are well -- at least you give me hope that somehow this can be conquered. And it sounds like you are living a healthier lifestyle than before! I'm happy to hear your good news.

You're are welcome Katie. Glad to share and thanks for the kind words. I'm "still here" because I care enough about what helped me and a couple of others that I'm going to keep on posting updates, results, recent breakthroughs, and healing stories as I get 'em! I do honestly believe that combatting anxiety can help more than heartburn and GERD. It is an entire lifestyle and emotional life system that works well for me and I'll keep on as long as I can. I do take a short sabatical from time to time .....but someone or something always beckons me back.

Hope you are finding yourself down the path to wellness soon! :p

Thanks, GW.

I hope that I have the same healing results as you eventually.
