What is the practical experience of the members of WHEN is the best time to take PPIs?? Do some do better before meals, after meals, during meals???.I usually have probs about 2 hours after meals, so....what would be the best time to take Nexium?? Has anyone experimented with it and found a better time than others??
Most PPIs are recommended 30 minutes before meals and at bedtime if prescribed twice a day.

I take my doses of PPIs 30 minutes before breakfast and my evening meal. I found that taking my second one before bedtime didn't work as well, as they are supposed to be activated by food.

my doctor has told me on several occasions that the medicine (ppis) must be taken on an empty stomach. (i.e in morning before you eat breakfast or before dinner). Then you MUST eat 30-45 minutes after the pill. (i.e., do not take them 5 mins. before you start to eat breakfast......)
It has to do with how the meds turn the pumps on and off.
if you don't eat within 45 mins of taking the med, it will have no effect.
it's amazing to me how many people don't know this, or how many folks don't properly administer their meds - is it the Dr's shortcomings, or are we not listening to them?
hope this is helpful.

Robin - that's really helpful information, thanks! None of the Dr's I've seen about this ever mentioned the significance of the timing! Hopefully taking my Aciphex 30 minutes before meals will produce better results. Thanks again!
