Hi Nancy/James,
Just curious if you have found that the Celexa/Lexapro has helped your symptoms at all yet? --Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,
It has helped my mood to stabilize, but it hasn't changed a thing with my GERD symptoms. I'm going on my third week on Celexa...
I answered your other thread on "General Discussion" in more detail about Celexa. Sorry I wrote back so late, I rarely read any category other than "Heartburn and GERD."

I have only been taking Celexa for 6 days and I already feel better. I thought it tookweeks to feel the difference.
It isn't helping the burping but my moods sure are better.

Hi Sandi,
Has the Celexa helped any of your GI symptoms at all? or just the moods? Thanks, Rebecca

Unfortunately it has only helped my moods, such as worrying and feeling down but that is a plus. Just wish I could find a cure for burping. The Prilosec does take care of the burn.
Take care,
Sandi

this is a long shot, but when I started taking mastic gum, I was having burps that would literally move the earth. My husband said they were about an 8 on the richter scale. :D
After the FIRST DOSE of mastic gum, my burping stopped immediately. I mean STOPPED. If you want to try it, this substance does not usually have any "ill effects". It really got my burps knocked in the head pronto, that's all i know.
Hi Guys! :)
Just need to throw in here, a bit, about Celexa. As most of you know I took this as one of the three meds while recovering from the anxiety/panic/depression mode I was in while suffering from ALL the GERD symptoms. The fact that I took Celexa WITH Xanax and WITH Prilosec .......MAY.....have helped in the overall healing of my GERD symptoms. In retrospect, I believe if their was one of these two drugs that help control the symptoms, it would have to be the Xanax. It does, in fact, control excess bile secretions from the lower pyloric sphincter caused by anxiety during times when bile is not normally needed......like when we're resting.
I'm putting a sorta , kinda FINE point on this to stress that an antidepressant like Celexa is not a "cure all" for GI maladies. It, in fact, can CAUSE anxiety.....especially within the first few days of taking it. I was, in fact, prescribed Celexa to counteract the initial side-effects of Xanax. To add to the confusion, Xanax can cause a side effect of depression. So, that's why doctors here prescribe both as S.O.P. for treating general anxiety disorders.
While it may be true that there are anti anxiety "properties" in Celexa, it's primary function is to elevate mood by controlling the seratonin levels of the brain.
I personally believe that these two drugs should only be used within a relative short season. Why? Because they are "mind altering" drugs and can be both emotionally and physically addictive. I used them knowing that they were only "tools" to help me get back to making a natural plan to get myself in shape both physically and psycho-emotionally.
Even though these are only my opinions regarding these drugs, I will admit that using them in the manner I described .....worked! I've been GERD free and med free for several months now.
Thanks for letting me share this and I hope the best for you all in your own personal quest for better health. :p
