View Full Version : How long does it take for Celexa to kick in?

I started taking it about 12 days ago, and while I'm not as weepy as I was, I really can't feel any other difference. How long should I wait before I ask my doctor if I can try something else? When I had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Prozac would start working in 3-5 days, but since I no longer have that, even that takes longer to work, and it doesn't work as well as it did. (I'm not taking both; I was on Prozac, but since that didn't help like it used to, my doctor switched me to Celexa.)

Thanks for any help/advice you can give me!

Sounds just like what happened to me with this great anti-depressant. I didn't "feel" it working. That's what I told my doctor I wanted. I HATE the "drugged" feeling. I said, "as soon as it makes me feel loopy or something.....I'm done!"

It just stopped my depression...ie., "weeping". To me, this is what a person should have happening. One bad thing at a time starts going away. It's for depression......nothing else. However, there CAN be some side benefits.

It's like I said before about this one and the anti anxiety drug Xanax.....It's not a panacea. It won't "take care" of EVERYTHING that's wrong with you. It's just one of the tools in the tool box.

You're doing fine. Give it a couple of months and pretty soon you're gonna say one day, "Hey, why am I smiling so much, the world still sucks, but I'm sorta pleasant inside."

Happy Trails!

Thanks for the reassurance! Funny you said that about "Hey, why am I smiling so much, the world still sucks, but I'm sorta pleasant inside." I work with some extremely disturbed 14-year-old girls, and I've been going home just wound up to the point of exploding. But yesterday, the worst offender didn't bother me as much, and I wondered why. Maybe it's just the Celexa sneaking up on me!

I still think I'd benefit from some Xanax, although my doctor didn't think so!

Thanks again.

I could not take Celexa (Lexapro) but I take Sinequan (tri-cyclic antidepressant), and that is exactly the way it hits me: I still have crap happen, but I don't let it get to me anymore, not nearly so bad. Other than that, I feel perfectly normal...thank goodness!

God knows I need to let things bother me less! If that's a benefit of taking Celexa, then it's worth the money times ten! Prozac wasn't doing that for me; I was still wound up way too tight. I took it for 8 years, so maybe it just wore itself out.
