weird side effects

Has anyone out there experienced or heard of either Protonix or Pepcid ( or anything else, what the heck) having the following side effects?

Irritation of the tongue (a small patch on the top of my tongue has been raw feeling, although fairly normal looking except for numerous canker sores)

Strange tastes in the mouth (sometimes an acidy, metallic taste, which could just be the acid but I never had it when I wasn't taking medications; and sometimes a sweet, sugary taste, as if my saliva was sugar syrup), somtimes making food taste off.

I haven't found any of these listed in the numerous side effects websites I've looked at. Don't have much faith in the doctor being of any help.

...but the thing I don't understand is why do I have that taste now, when I'm taking Protonix, which is making me heartburn SO much better, and I never had it when I took other medications, or when my heartburn was so much worse?

Hey Linbee,

Just give it a few weeks for your body to adjust to the new med. If it's only a weird taste and not anything painful, like bad stomach cramps (I got those on it), then I wouldn't be afraid. Especially since it seems to be doing the trick on the ol' heartburn.
