Anyway, what were your pain meds? Amount and for how long?

I was given Morphine at the hospital after my fundo for Wednesday (had surgery at 7AM) and 1/2 of Thursday, went home Thurs. evening.

When I got home, I wanted to take just one percocet (they prescribed two every four hours) and not "get addicted", only to wake up Friday morning in excrutiating pain...called doc, she said, ROBIN TAKE THE DRUGS!!!! I did and felt much better; however, I've taken them for the last 3 days and now will be out as of tomorrow morning...I know that they won't call in the Percocet over the phone, but I still have pretty significant pain.

What did every one else take and for how long? When were you at the point to where you didn't HAVE to take meds just to breathe with ease?

Pls. adv...thanks, Robinbird

Robinbird, I hope you're feeling better now. I had my fundo done at 7 a.m. on a Thursday, had morphine that day, then went to Roxicet that afternoon. Continued that for about a week. After the first few days I didn't take it every 4 hours (or 6, whichever it was) because it made me too dopey, but I took it whenever I got really uncomfortable or wanted to sleep. By then I didn't need it so much for surgical pain, but for the pain in the shoulders from the gas pumped into me. That continued (lessening each day) for a week or so, then went away.

The first 5 days are the worst (especially days 4 and 5), then you'll start to improve noticeably each day. By 10 days I felt pretty much normal (whatever that is!).

Good luck!!!

Marie

I was on percocet (sp?) for 2.5 months after my second fundo. I too wanted to "not get hooked" and tried to wean off them sooner than I should have. You will know when you no longer need them. Your body will tell you.
There's no reason to be in pain.

Hi Robinbird,
It all depends on your tolerance to pain. I am a total wuss. I also got massive muscle spasms and muscle swelling that was shooting pain about a month after the surgery. When they stitched me back together, the muscle walls did not butt up exactly, so it was doing a lot of adjusting to itself.
It depends on how fast you heal, or want to heal in that case. I stayed away from work as long as I possibly could, but that was due to hating my job.
Your situation may not be as bleak as it seemed to me at the time..
