View Full Version : Best Anti-Nausea Medication

Hi all,
I know that I asked something similar awhile ago, but thought I'd ask again hoping to get more replies from those people who have had a fundo as well as those who haven't. What has everyone used for anti-nausea medication? And what has had the least side-effects for you? I don't mind if it is over-the-counter or prescription...what works?
I had a fundo last November and am getting more paranoid about having to vomit and know that I'd likely damage the surgery if I tried (since I can't burp). I have liquid Phenergan on hand, but have never tried it...so I don't really know if it'll work for me or if I'll experience any side effects. I'd just like to get a show of hands to see what works for others. Thanks in advance.
Bobby
I have not had the Fundo but almost always have nausea and vomiting after general anesthesia and once after conscious sedation used for a colonoscopy. I found a Compazine suppository worked for me.

Hi Bobby,
Phenergan works WONDERS!!! Whenever I get Nauseated, which is becoming more and more often now that I'm on the stronger Narcotics!! I take 25mg and about 5-10 minutes later the Nausea is GONE!! ;)
Prayers,
Tom

Daw,
Thanks. That's the kind of info I'm looking for.

Tom,
Thanks again. I'll keep the liquid Phenergan on hand just in case. I hope it works as well for me as it does for you...actually I hope I never have to use it :). Take care.

Hi Lee,
Yes, Phenergan is prescription. Actually Tom was the one who originally suggested Phenergan and then I requested it from my doctor. I think I'm just going to try a little and see if I experience any of the possible side effects. But, I guess I'll have to wait until I actually get sick to see if it works for me. I was hoping that this post would get to a larger sample of people so as to see how effective the different medications are for different people. Since these medications (Compazine, Phenergan & others) have been around awhile, I guess they're probably all pretty effective for most people.

Hey Bobby,
Don't WAIT Till you get sick to try it Bud!! Use it when you FIRST Get Nauseated!! Just so you know, the first time I had to use it (During my Infamous Flu Episode), It Knocked me on my Kiester!! Probably due to my weak condition!! When I use it now, I get a little Drowsy, but not bad!!
And, DON'T get Paranoid about the "V" word!! You are Six Months Post-Op!! Scar Tissue will build up and protect the Surgery Area after about 2-3 months!! So, Don't Sweat it Bud!! K :)
Prayers,
Tom
