GERD & Esophageal Varices
I am a 41 year old recovering Alcoholic, sober for 9 years.
10 years ago when I was drinking I was admitted to the
hospital 2x for Esophageal Varcies receiving blood both times.
as I all most died twice. Back then I had GERD, heartburn,
I had to have a baloon placed in the esophagus to open
it back up. After I quit drinking I had no other problems
with this. Untill recently, I am SUFFERING with GERD, the acid
from my stomach backs up into my throat causing choking
and inhalling fluids from my stomach (this happen 2 to 3 times
a night. The burning is constant 24 x7. I can't eat much any more as it hurts going down, and food seems to get stuck
going down. My question is did the esophagus heal completely
and this is something new or could I be experiencing problems
from damaged caused years ago. Can past esophageal varices
cause problems in the future.

It's not possible to know the answers to your questions -- I'd need to see tests and your medical records (and even then I couldn't answer the questions because I'm not a doctor).
I urge you to find a good GI specialist and take your questions with you to your first appointment. Good luck.
