neuropathy caused by Gerd?

Does anyone have an opinion of whether neuopathy in my hands and arms, sometimes my feet and legs could be caused by my Gerd? My primary doctor suspected carpal tunnel and put me in splints when i sleep but that has not helped much. When i first has gerd last year I would have sensations all down my arms and legs that wre not painful, but weird. I suspected nerve stimulation from reflux issues in esophagus. This weird sensation has developed in to more of a pain, especially at night. When it wakes me up I can shake out my arms and get normal feeling back. Also, I am on prilosec every other day for the reflux. Should I see a neurologist or my GI doctor?

Hi JD. I also have GERD with periodic tingling in my arms and legs, and joint pain. The doctors can't seem to make a connection. I take Nexium for the GERD but try to stay away from the ibuprofin for the pain because that makes the GERD worse. I was tested for MS which, thankfully, came back negative. I have been to a neurologist who said, other than an UBO (unusually bright spot ?!?) on my brain, he thought I looked fine. I went to a specialist for LYME who found nothing. I went to a rheumatologist who said it may be the beginning of an autoimmune thing but to just wait and see. I take comfort in the fact that if it was something really bad, hopefully they would have found it. But it is still disconcerting. I wish you luck and hope you feel better soon. You could try mentioning to your GI and if that doesn't pay off, check out a neurologist.

How interesting. I also get tingling down my arms on occasions and often wake up with a hand feeling quite numb. A change in position seems to rectify it. I can definately make a connection between these episodes and a bad period of reflux - taking pantoprazole. A neurologist couldn't find anything wrong 4 years ago when I first noticed it...

I know this is an old thread but just have to add that I think this is exactly what happened to me!

I woke up one morning with my whole upper body burning (both arms/chest/neck/back) non stop for a full month and test after test showed nothing. 4 days after the initial burning started I developed a severe esophagitis so I linked it with the burning though all the gastroenterologists said there was no way arm burning could be caused by acid reflux. I disagree and this is what I think happened to me. I still have some residual arm burning as well as chest, neck and back burning but the majority of the burning went away with PPI treatment which I was on for 2 plus months. I am now trying to heal with alternatives but wanted to post my experience in this thread since it totally applies.

Interesting note: MissJ- I also showed UBO's (unidentified bright objects) on my head MRI as well. The neurologist said that these show up commonly in people who suffer with migraines. I however have never had a migraine. Weird that you had these as well unless you do get migraines.

I would be interested if anyone else had similar symptoms with their acid reflux.
