  • Im going to try to continue without getting on any more meds, including anxiety meds. BTW. I would not do Xanax. I will keep your suggestion in mind if I ever go down that path. Just need to figure out what is causing these body aches and nausea. I felt this way about 5 months ago but it had gone away.

NYer...your experience with your fiancé is just like my husband and I. I've always been the strong, one believe it or not. My hubby is trying so hard to keep it together and he is stepping up big time with the kids. I need to get it together for them. My son keeps asking me why im so skinny

Good point, NYer, and you are right to add the clarification. Thanks. However, it is important that folks realize that soy bean crops are often rotated with wheat and so contamination does occur. I'm not enough of a biologist to explain exactly how, however. But truly gluten-free soy is made by growing the beans in a way that they don't ever encounter anything wheat.

I have no way of knowing whether this contamination is why I cannot tolerate soy of any sort, but I'm guessing it is. Either that, or the various chemicals they use before harvest and during processing are the culprits. Maybe both.

We do have folks here who reported that their reflux was taken care of by addressing anxiety. I've seen this reported elsewhere too, though I don't have any URLs handy, since this isn't anything that has affected me. GW is the user I most recall having discussed this. He hasn't been around in ages but his posts are still available in the archives. Probably in the GERD and Anxiety forum....

          • Wow, Thistle. Thank you for posting that. It would be nice to know that he hasn't posted for a long time because he's FINE! (I would hope.)

OK, so in MY case, the anxiety was caused by the GERD. But in other people's cases, perhaps the anxiety CAUSED the GERD, so for them anti-anxiety pills would be a good idea.

Thistle, did you ever try Non-GMO Organic soy? I wonder if that would still affect you. Not saying that you should test that out now, though.

              • to NYer

NYer, thanks for mentioning non-GMO soy. (I think all of us should avoid all things GMO actually whether or not we are having problems.) However, the practice of rotating crops was consistently used before those diabolical folks started in with GMO stuff. So I think soy can be "contaminated" either way. It's likely a pick your poison issue.

But it would be worth it for someone who is concerned with this to try non-GMO soy, of course. So I'm glad you added this to the discussion.

And re: GW. I believe he did fix his GERD issues once he ID'd anxiety as the culprit. Anyone who wants to know would have to go back and read his posts. No one should ever count on my memory re: stuff that was discussed here years ago.

                • Good morning everyone. NYer, quick question. I need to reorder my Absorbaid digestive enzymes and I see that there is an absorb aid Platinum. http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/p/nature-source-absortaid-platinum-60-veggie-caps/wi-1005#.U5wwkHmaLwI

What are your thoughts? Should I try the Platinum or stick with the regular Absorbaid? Thanks!

                  • Hey Hay!
Nah...just get the regular Absorbaid. The Platinum has probiotics in it but you're much better off getting probiotics that have to be refrigerated (so they actually stay alive and accomplish something). And it's also like 4 times as expensive as the regular. (I have used the regular all this time and it worked!)
BTW, go to Vitacost.com. Their price is better and I just noticed that they have promo codes today: "June5" $5 off of $55 purchase / "June15" $15 off of $100 purchase / or "June30" $30 off of $180 (and all have free shipping)

And ebates is also offering 4% cash back for anyone who is interested in reordering.

                      • Good morning!

                        Good Morning everyone,

I wanted to say that out of all the forums I've been on, this one is by far the best regarding information and encouragement. There are so much negative people out there regarding GERD/Gastritis... Dame they would make you feel like there is no light at the end of the dame tunnel! I try to be as positive as I can be through all this... and NYer has contributed majorly to my healing and I'm so appreciative!

Well this weekend has not been bad other than being SO constipated and a lot of reflux! I ride a motorcycle and the feeling of fullness and constipation does no go well with riding! I decided to try some Slippery elm tea last night before bed and HELL I went this morning and I felt like doing back flips!!! (thick and gummy) I'm officially stopping my PPI's as of today! To hell with them, I'm tired of feeling like crap! I'm having a cup of SE tea again this morning and followed by my breakfast and Absorbaid!

                        • Hiya Nikki!
It makes me feel so good that I've been able to have such a positive impact on so many people. Thank you for all of the nice things you've said.
By the way, you don't have to worry about taking too much slippery elm bark, so if it's helping, use it whenever you want to.

                          • Your welcome~

That's what I was going to ask, if you could use too much much slippery elm bark... ok good to know! Its soothing that's for sure! Well I'll see how it goes this week... I'm planning on taking it 3 times a day on a empty stomach this week along with the absorbaid, DGL and probiotics. still refluxing and warm tummy but manageable.

Gastritis/GERD is so personal! There is no one cure... Just trial and error until you find what works (and hopefully something does)! I have an appointment with a naturopathic doctor this week so I'm happy about that. I'm not sure if I have too much acid or simply not enough GERD could be really confusing if you don't educate yourself! My main goal is to get better!

Another thing! I know I'm suppose to stay away from sodas but I noticed that warm gingerale really helps my reflux. Go figure! Good for temporary relief (For me)

                            • I saw my internist yesterday as we are back from vacation and I wanted to get my thrush checked out as there has been no change in my tongue coating. Well it turns out he doesn't think I have thrush and told me to d/c the antifungals. He said it is probably due to the upper respiratory infection I had a few weeks ago. Weird. Anyway I hope he's right and I continue to eat well and take my probiotics and digestive enzymes and DGL.

I also bought a Vitamix and I love it. I have been making healthy smoothies and am looking to add some protein powders to them to make them even more nutritional because protein is something I have trouble getting into my diet. A number of people have recommended the Sunwarrior warrior blend so I have ordered some samples and will see what I think. It is vegan and dairy, soy, gluten and sugar free so that's all good. Now I hope it tastes decent and we're in business. Last night I had an amazing smoothie. It was half baby spinach, kale, chard and the other 1/2 fruit (banana, blueberries, pineapple and a quarter of an avocado). It was creamy, smooth and yummy! Better than I could have even imagined especially on a steamy night. It is getting hot here and the humidity is creeping up that's for sure.

                              Hope everyone is doing well!

                              • I have been lusting after those Vitamix blenders. They're expensive and they're a little bit large and I don't have the counter-space in my kitchen. But I go to Williams-Sonoma and stare at them longingly.
